Christmas at Disney’s Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom

Elegant hotel lobby decorated with a large floral arrangement and a tall Christmas tree.

Arriving at Disney’s Grand Floridian for Christmas

For our son’s first Christmas season, we packed our bags and headed to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for a holiday getaway. We arrived on Christmas Eve and immediately felt like we had stepped into a Christmas movie. The entrance was lined with lush holiday garland, sparkling lights, and oversized ornaments, while inside the lobby an enormous Christmas tree towered above guests. Vibrant red poinsettias seemed to be everywhere, adding festive touches throughout the resort and making every corner feel decorated for the holidays. Between the festive music, elegant Victorian details, and convenient location near Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian was the perfect place to celebrate Christmas with our eight-month-old.

Our stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian

Our stay

One of my favorite parts of the trip was simply being together as a family during our son’s first Christmas season. At the lobby during check-in, the staff gave him a "My First Visit" Disney pin as a keepsake, which we still have and put on his diaper bag. As soon as we got to our room, Jack was excited to be on the bed smiling and adorably posing for pictures —something he seems to do at every hotel. We stayed in Sago Cay and found it to be both spacious and comfortable for traveling with a baby. The recently renovated rooms feature charming Mary Poppins-inspired details throughout, which felt perfectly suited to the Grand Floridian’s classic style. Even our building had festive Christmas décor, making the holiday atmosphere feel like it extended well beyond the main lobby. We loved spending time strolling around the resort and returning to our room each evening after enjoying all the holiday magic.

The Perch

The Perch Lobby Bar at the Grand Floridian

One of the newest additions to the Grand Floridian is The Perch, a beautiful lobby bar that looks like an elegant birdcage brought to life. With rich wood details, stunning stained glass, and a design that perfectly complements the resort’s Victorian charm, it quickly became one of my favorite spots on property. It’s the perfect place to grab a drink and a light bite while soaking in the holiday atmosphere. During our visit, a live pianist played Christmas music beside the resort’s towering Christmas tree, creating a festive backdrop. When the pianist finished playing, everyone applauded, and our son looked around with the biggest smile, as if he though the claps were all for him. It may have been the first applause he'd ever heard, making the moment even sweeter.

Christmas at Magic Kingdom

Christmas at Magic Kingdom

The day after Christmas, we made the short five-minute walk from the Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom. One of the first things we noticed was the enormous Christmas tree at the entrance, followed by the beautiful garland, wreaths, and festive decorations lining Main Street, U.S.A. The entire park felt magical and was the perfect backdrop for our family photos.

We stopped at Curtain Call Collectibles to get our son hist first pair of classic mouse ears embroidered with his name, "Baby Jack." It's the cutest souvenir from the trip, and he still wears his special ears every time we return to the parks.

The best purchase we made was PhotoPass. For about $80, we were able to capture family photos throughout the day, including some of my favorite pictures in front of Cinderella Castle. We wore festive Christmas colors and now have photos I’ll treasure forever.

We also took advantage of Lightning Lane through our Disney resort stay and purchased three selections for about $37. We used ours for Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Peter Pan’s Flight, all gentle enough for a baby. At eight months old, I’m not sure how much Jack understood about Disney, but it was still fun watching his reactions. He slept through Pirates of the Caribbean and then seemed much more interested in Haunted Mansion.

During the afternoon, we stopped at Beak and Barrel, one of Magic Kingdom’s newest lounges. The pirate-themed bar was a fun place to grab a drink and a few appetizers while taking a break from the crowds. The space is dark and immersive, and we even caught part of the interactive show while we were there. It was a unique experience and one of our favorite stops in the park.

The Enchanted Rose

The Enchanted Rose

Enchanted Rose is the Grand Floridian’s Beauty and the Beast-inspired lounge and one of the resort’s more elegant spots for a drink. One of my favorite features was the stunning mural spanning the wall, which felt like stepping into an enchanted forest. Even the chandeliers seemed magical, casting a warm glow throughout the space. I especially loved enjoying a glass of Veuve Clicquot—my favorite champagne—while taking in the atmosphere. Even with our eight-month-old, we felt comfortable stopping in for a drink, and there’s an outdoor patio area that’s perfect if little ones need a change of scenery or get a bit restless. If you time your visit right, you can even catch views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the lounge.

Final thoughts

Our Christmas stay at the Grand Floridian was a trip we’ll always remember. Between the beautiful holiday decorations, festive atmosphere, easy access to Magic Kingdom, and special moments with our son during his first Christmas season, it felt like the perfect holiday getaway. From strolling the resort grounds to watching fireworks over Cinderella Castle, every part of the trip felt magical, and it’s a Christmas memory we’ll treasure for years to come.
